Yes, we’re known by many to be the most rockingest 80’s glam metal band in Ireland. And yes, we do thoroughly love beating the crap out of our instruments (hey now) and playing the most raucous covers known to man. But now begins a new chapter for LIXX. We’ll be showcasing a few new original tunes at our next gig on August 7th at Crawdaddy. Although the ink is still wet for these songs, we’re gonna play them anyway. Keep an ear out for “LOVE LOST, LUST FOUND” and “POISON KISS“. Yes, we realize the second title has 2 band names in it, but the song has nothing to do with Poison, or KISS – but rather a POISON KISS. Get it?
So it’s been ages since we stuck up an album review here at Lixxrox cos really nothing decent has come out in the last while but last week a new Vince Neil album arrived in the mail so I thought it would be worth letting people know about it. When I heard that Vince had a new Solo cd coming out I was excited but when I heard that it had only 2 new studio tracks and that the rest of the disc was covers I was less excited. I popped in the disc not expecting too much from it at all but it really surprised me how much this cd rocks. Vince has made these covers sound like his own songs. The album opens with a brand new studio track and first video called ”Tattoos and Tequila”. It’s an awesome heavy number and the production is superb from Jack Blades (Night Ranger, Damn Yankees). The song does sound an awful lot like a song called ”Champagne” by Cavo. Just play those 2 choruses back to back, hmmm bit of a rip off but still awesome. The other new Vince song is a ballad called ”Another Bad Day” and this is the highlight of the album. This song was the one that didn’t make the Crue ”New Tattoo” album and I don’t know why cos it’s the best song that Vince has sang since his Exposed album in the early 90’s. Other highlight are covers of Cheap Trick’s ”He’s a Whore”, Aerosmith’s ”Nobody’s Fault” and The Sweet’s ”AC/DC”. His band on this record include Dana Strum and Jeff Blando of Slaughter and they really kick ass. This is the soundtrack to Vince’s book that hits shelves in September. It’s well worth dipping into mummy’s purse and heading down to the Sound Cellar and picking up this bad boy.
Congrats to Aaron Mc Cormack who guessed correctly that the tune Lazer Sexxxsmith was rocking out was, in fact, “Stand Up And Shout” by the late Ronnie James Dio. This means LIXX and Dio will forever be immortalized in the soft 35/65 cotton polyester blend that is a rockin’ LIXX t-shirt. We can’t guarantee that our shirts won’t summon the shrewd cry of Dio’s facemelting pipes. When you put the shirt on, you might have the urge to immediately STAND UP AND SHOUT!!! LET IT OUT!!! Congrats dude!
For those of you who didn’t win, there will be many, many more chances, so don’t fret (get it? …fret? ugh). Also, keep an eye out for LIXX KNIXX…the most rocking thongs on the planet, coming to your nether regions soon!
Thanks for coming to see LIXX at James Joyce Ulysses Venue for the Lazer Sexxxsmith Birthday Extravaganza! It was great to see a lot of familiar faces and a lot of new ones too! We hope catch you all at Fibber Magees on Saturday, June 5th when we blow the roof off the place. We’ll be mixing up the setlist and adding around 5 new tunes, so they’ll be a few surprises for everyone.
CONGRATS RICHY KEARNS and HEATHER HAUSER
You’re the winners of our first LIXX LICKS t-shirt giveaway. The tune Lazer Sexxxsmith was playing is “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love” by Van Halen. We hope you enjoy your new LIXX t-shirts. A word of warning – these t-shirts are a fabric invitation to get groped, so we will not be held responsible for members of the opposite sex wanting to get their paws all over you. It happens to us all the time.
RIP RONNIE JAMES DIO
In memory of Dio, LIXX will be learning a tune or 2 to play at Fibber Magees on Saturday, June 5th. If you have any special request, please e-mail them below. We hope to give him the send off he deserves.
What is it with F&%KING guitarists? Lazer Sexxxsmith…LIXX rehearsal…2 hours late…whiter than Davey Danger’s hind quarters…reaking of booze and other human excretions. Sometimes rock gets in the way of his full schedule of debauchery, booze and women.
Good thing we have a drummer who has a surefire hangover cure. Anyone have a bucket?
Thanks to everyone who checked us out at Fibber Magees. We were blown away by the crowd (and on a Wednesday night no less!) and look forward to getting some weekend gigs booked soon. Also special shouts out to Reborn and Eazy Tyger, who put amazing sets! Here are a few pics from the night…
Have a great Christmas and we’ll catch you all early in the new year!
LIXX will be making their headlining debut at Fibber Magee’s on Wednesday, December 16th – 8pm!!! No excuses metalheads and LIXX CHIXX! Get your arses out to see the hardest rocking band in Ireland. Yes, it’s a weeknight, but it’s a week before Christmas for crying out loud!!! You’ll be doing nothing in work anyway except shuffling papers trying to look busy and eating Roses. Why not spend a Thursday with a hangover and ringing ears? That’s what the holidays are all about!
Dust off the studded leather and spandex. LIXX is here! We play all the classics by Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Poison, Whitesnake, Van Halen, and Warrant - and everything in between!
